The Importance of using Worksheets in the language classroom

 
   

   

         Have you ever wondered if these sheets with practices that teachers usually use in the classroom are really important in a language classroom? Well, the answer is that truly they are and in this blog you will see why they are useful and why you should use them in your classrooms.
Worksheets are effective tools to involve students during or after a lesson. They are used to support the student's learning, increase student' success and encourage students to participate in class.

   One of the main purpose of using worksheets in language classrooms is that support students learning. Firstly, It is important to say that worksheets do not teach, the purpose of them is to support  or increase the knowledge your students already have, so for the use of these tools is essential  the student's previous knowledge. For that reason teachers should explain a lesson or a specific topic before the use of the worksheets.


   Another importance of using worksheets is the increment of student's success. This is due to the knowledge being putting in practice. While more a teacher gives practices to their students the future success of them will increase. Using worksheets allow teachers to see the progress  students are having and in that way she or he will make the arrangements to guide the students through the success of understanding of a lesson or topic. Expert teachers suggest that using worksheets in language classrooms will help students to retain knowledge of a given lesos.


   Using worksheets for encouraging students to participate in class is another important use you can give to the use of worksheets in a language classroom  because most of the time students do not like to participate in class activities some of them are shy or simply they do not like to express ideas orally but when teachers use worksheets they motivate their students to be part of the class, express the ideas and understanding they have through a serie of activities related to an information they should be already aware of.

  Also there are some characteristics that these kind of materials use in language classrooms, one of them is that there are a lot of kind of worksheets to take ideas from for the creation of the ones that teachers will use. The creation of worksheets are not complicated as long as the teachers really know which are the need they want to meet with the use of them, worksheets will be useless if the use of them do not help in the understanding and practices of a given lesson. Also worksheets are useful because teachers can reuse them in future classes.

  For these and more reason, worksheets are good and effective materials that teachers should consider to use in the language classroom, they are an excellent support for students learning.
